The other week I saw on the Etsy Blog a project that they do in conjunction with Citymeals-on-wheels. Along with delivering nutritious meals to elderly New Yorkers on Valentine’s Day, they will also be providing handmade greeting cards and companionship. It’s a project that has become an Etsy tradition.

I spent yesterday morning cutting out paper snowflakes to go with some Christmas decorations the kids and I made last year (Christmas Banners: A Fun Craft Project for the Kids). Really love how each one turns out unique, just like the real snowflakes. It is such a simple thing to do and the results are so satisfying.

My step-daughter turned six this year and for her birthday I said I would make her a bag and wallet. I found an excellent tutorial on how to make a basic messenger bag by mmmcrafts and thought I would try it out. Read more
Since making these delightful patchwork owls for my Etsy Shop, I have noticed that owls have been visiting us at night, hoo hooing away while we are watching TV or getting ready for bed. At first I couldn’t work out where the sound was coming from, thinking that it was part of the TV show we were watching, but then I realized it was coming from the chimney. And sure enough when I went outside, I could see an owl perched on top of our chimney, and another sitting on the neighbor’s chimney!

Last year my sister and her family got a new dog – a gorgeous looking Akita puppy named Oushi. And because kids are very good at asking for things, my niece and two nephews requested I crochet an Akita Dog for them. They had found a picture of a crocheted Akita when surfing the net and were very excited about it as their Auntie Angela can crochet and could easily crochet an Oushi look-a-like for them. Piece of cake.

For his birthday this year, my nephew requested I crochet him a red octopus with rainbow colored legs. This is the second rainbow octopus I have made and I got the pattern from the book, Amigurumi World: Seriously Cute Crochet, by Ana Paula Rimoli. This was the first crochet book I bought and is a great book for amigurumi beginners. The octopus is very easy to make.

“Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans” – John Lennon.
So, the plan was to move 2000 plus miles away, but life happened in between and we are still here, half packed and waiting…waiting…waiting.
We are moving!
I really hate moving, I’m sure I’m not alone in that category. For something I really hate, I have done it over 25 times and it’s not going to be the last time. Glutton for punishment or just the irony of life?

This is a simple yet good game for kids (and adults, too!) to hone their memory skills. You can just print out the page and cut along the dotted lines to make up the cards, but I think the added step of coloring in makes it more fun and personalized, as well as keep the kiddies occupied for longer :) Play it with 2 or more kids, or even one can play on his/her own.

With Christmas just around the corner, the kids (5 and 7) and I spent an afternoon making some colorful Christmas banners to decorate the house with. As soon as we finished one, they would say, “Let’s do another one!”, so we would come up with another phrase and I kept cutting out more and more colored squares. Not only was it fun, it was a great way to get the kids to practice their spelling and writing out letters.

Always one to be on the look out for bargains, I had bought some cork coasters from IKEA. They were cheap and looked good, but after only a few uses, they started to warp and tear. Since I have been doing more sewing, my fabric scrap pile has been growing quite high. One night while making some cotton backed wash cloths, I thought to myself, “why not make coasters out of my fabric scraps!” I’m sure I’m not the first to come up with this idea, but I thought I would share it anyway.
